About the Tests

Theory Test

You need to pass the theory test before you can book and take a practical test.

Practical tuition can start at any time.

The theory test is a computer based, touch-screen test.

You have 40 minutes to complete the test.

Web Search

There are 35 multiple-choice questions and you need to get at least 30 right to pass.

Hazard Perception Test

Hazard Perception is the second part of the theory test and must be passed at the same time.

There are 14 Video clips, each about a minute long.

The videos feature various types of hazard, such as road conditions, vehicles and pedestrians.

The earlier you spot a hazard developing that may require the driver to take some action, the higher the score.

There are 15 scoreable hazards in the test and candidates can score up to 5 points on each hazard.

The pass mark is 44 out of 75

Practical Test

You won’t be tested on all the manoeuvres and there is random testing of the emergency stop.

16 or more minor faults will result in test failure.

If you pass your theory test but fail your practical test, you only need to take your practical test again.

A ’Show and Tell’ element has been added to the practical test.
